Japan: one step from Sendai (for Anne Thomas)

that is what she wrote from Sendai

after the earthquake

that food and water are shared;

left in her entryway with no note, no claim

just sharing happening

an evolutionary cosmic step she wrote

sending that her heart is opening

and again, reading words the Great Reality is grasped

one step, letting us know

wringing from the bell of my body

waves of gratitude

she and grief mending here

1 Year Later - A follow up to Anne Thomas's Letter from Japan

It is nearly one year since Anne wrote her first letter after the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of 11 March, 2011. Although much work has been done, many people still need assistance. Anne has collected her touching letters and have published them in a book called "Letters from the Ground to the Heart - Beauty Amid Destruction". To read more stories like these, please consider buying the book or donate at www.lettersfromthegroundtotheheart.com . 100% of the proceeds go to survivors of the tragic events.

Candy what i oject to in that comment by kamjimantoo is this, see my CAPS

"I hope this [DISASTER] is a spiritual wakeup call to the Japanese people on a whole. UH KANJI, THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN SPIRITUALY CALLED SHINTO and BUDDHISM. NO?

It's time for some introspective soul searching on what actually lends meaning to life. UH KANJI, THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN SPIRITUALY CALLED SHINTO and BUDDHISM. NO?

We simply don't exist just to exist, and when we cease to exist it a shame to have lived and not have known there was a very real purpose intended for you specifically by what some refer to as, the Man upstairs. UH KANJI, THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN SPIRITUALY CALLED SHINTO and BUDDHISM. AND THERE IS NO NEED FOR JESUS OR ALLAH OR ADONAOI IN JAPAN. GET OFF YOUR CHRIISTAIN HIGH HORSE AND RESPECT OTHERS.
MAN UPSTAIRS? YOU THE PERSON WHO NEEDS SPIIRUTUAL GUIDANCE SIR!

He's .....HE? GOD IS A HE? .....more than that, and ready to open our eyes that we may see how marvelous, gracious, and an ever present source of peace and joy, even in the midst of unfathomable tragedy. '' JESUS JESUS JESUS GET OFF YOUR HIGH CHRISTIAN HORSE KANGI. UH KANJI, THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN SPIRITUALY CALLED SHINTO and BUDDHISM. .

yuck part 6

Candy, SEE? already some people from the West are calling on the Japanese to embrace Jesus or a Western concept of GOD.....even the Salvatrion Army is getting into the conversion act, calling on all Japaense to convert to their savior fake Jesus..see? whether it's NEW AGE bs or CHRISTIAN bs, sad all all around, witness this letter....from Anne Thomas blog....!

Anne Thomas is a good egg, in fact, Yuck man notes....

Anne Thomas said on ....12/ 8/2008 ...

"I like this sentence: "You have to be somebody before you can be nobody."

I cannot remember who said these wise words, but I love them. I love the idea of becoming transparent after building up to a tremendous fullness. I love how life constantly evolves. It gives and takes away. We consciously build up. And if we are wise, when the time is right, we just as consciously disassemble. If we don't do it, life does it for us. Our projects, our involvements, our lives, our selves come together and disintegrate over and over again. In this particular cycle of my life, I seem to be peeling away. Life is bringing many losses, yet also a deep sense that all is as it should be. It is a time of letting go and of being let go. And maybe this is a new phase of becoming more transparent, of finally becoming "nobody". Surely no one any more special than anyone else at all. The beauty of an ordinary life. "

So, i just want to say she is a good person and a good egg. Just cut the BLESSED crap, Anne. okay?

anne

YUCK MAN asked a pastor friend if my beeswax antennae were working well here and he replied to me in internet time:

"Dear Danny,
you do not need help spiritually right now; your spiritual antennae is working just fine helping you see blasphemy and beeswax clearly.

I usually cut people who are in crisis considerable slack for what they say. Of course, if you are saved from drowning you are grateful; but if say you are "BLESSED" that implies that those not saved were not blessed or something worse. Apart from this crisis, I don't know if Anne would make that statement; some would and they would mean it (as you would say OUCH).

Your antennae are receiving quite well!:

Dear Joren Good note back to

Dear Joren
Good note back to me, re YUCK MAN, and yes, i can see how Anne's letter help alleviate some of your Mind fears and worries. So in that case, her letter is helpful and healing, i do see that. I am with you on this journey. So thanks for a good positive response to my angry yet also MINDFUL rant. Your attitude, Joren, gives me renewed hope. thanks.

as for anon poster re "Sucks to be Cynical and Hopeless!"
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 3/22/2011, 2:04pm......

Dear Anon at 2:04 pm,
I also liked your resonse and thanks, I see your points and they are good. Especially re: ...''.... I think it is important to retain the essence of what she is saying, which is that this disaster has put her back in touch with her humanity and what is really important/essential in life."

Yes, that IS important, and for that, her letter is useful and helpful.

I am just curious, is she a member of a cult or a cultic religion, like Satoyama maybe? Or is she a New Age Buddhist? All is okay, but what i object to her letter is this "OH I FEEL SO BLESSED BY THE COSMOS TO BE HERE IN DISASTER CENTRAL COSMOS AND WITNESS THE SHEER DESTRUCTION OF EARTH O I AM SO BLESSED."

Blessed? This use of the word BLESSED is what got my angry. See?

But when you write: "Danny, Western culture's primary drawback is its self-righteous, skeptical, empirical, independent, selfish and condescending (post-colonial) attitude. You display these behaviors ABUNDANTLY."

-- *** Maybe you have a point and i will re-examine my attitudes again, thanks for this good reminder. SMILE. I am also with YOU on this journey and it's good to be reminded of my faults,. I have many.

RE: "The blessing isn't in the disaster; it is in witnessing/experiencing the reactions of the Japanese people in response to the disaster.

HOW IS THAT A "BLESSING"?

OH I SEE..."....It is in knowing that at these desperate times, that humans will share and take care of each other, motivated by compassion, not greed. She is THANKING the people of Sendai, and the blessing is acknowledging her gratitude.

SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT : she is blessed to be in a disaster zone so she can say GRATITIDUE to her NEW AGE view of the Cosmos in the midst of all the 25,000 people who died and their relatives who are surviving? Oh, typical White man's woman's view of life again. OH I AM SO LUCKY AND BLESSED TO HAVE WITNESED FIRSTHAND THE TSUNAMI in THAIALDN so that I can SAY THANKS to universe for my being alive and loving sunsets and sunrises...WTF?

There is nothing wrong with being hopeful enough to think that this noble response and communal existence is more akin to how most humans wish to behave towards each other. YES YES YES. I AGREE HERE

There is nothing wrong with believing we can evolve towards a better way of treating each other. YES YES YES

There is nothing wrong with having death and destruction make us realize that there are more important things in the world than money. YES YES YES

BUT DOES SHE HAVE TO SAY BLESSED. You say it much better!!!!

To illustrate: On a a personal note: every time death strikes my family, we don't fight over property and inheritance, the grief brings us closer, it makes us see the beauty in life, makes us love our lives and each other even more. It doesn't mean it is a good thing that the tragedy happens, just that we humans are capable of transforming disaster into triumph, and the finest displays of human nobility comes from this particular trait. WELL SAID. I AGREE.

Good luck transforming your negative attitude and opening your heart, you obviously need it.

ACUTALLY, dear anon, if you knew me, face to face, you would see that i have a very postitive attitdue to life and others and have a HUGE heart, bigger than most people, BUT of course, i am always in need of a good heart to heart talk like you just gave me, so THANKS......

The only NEW AGE beeswax word i objected to in ANne's angel crapola letter was this BLESSED stuff......you white people need to re-examine your BLESSED ideas......ask any Japanese THERE if they feel BLESSED! you won't get one yes answer........CAN'T ANNE SEE THAT? YUCK!

BLESSED

I think the 25,000(?) people who got to leave this planet are BLESSED.

thank you for your post

Thank you for your post Anonymous.

Hearing anger in it; I simply feel helpless. Helpless in the situation and the fears provoked.

I received this letter through the Buddhist community and a Zen Peacemaker. Whoever Anne Thomas is- gave me, for one moment, respite from my fears. Fears created by my Mind after watching too much TV addictively. These fear creations were of devastation and starvation, both of which some of my older Japanese friends remember from the Japanese-American internment camps as children. These creations have presented an inability to find an expression of Great Eastern Sun Mind in my artwork. Chogyam Trungpa said in True Perception "Buddha (the creative expression style that is the foundation of the Mandala of Perception) is somewhat desolate, too spacious." and "where as Ratna (expression) has tremendous confidence, Karma (expression)...is still trying to give birth... Karma art is the worst; demonic and black.” As an artist I don’t want to succumb to the over-stimulation of media propaganda and start expressing these fears in the manner he describes as “demonic”. This letter offered a realization that I have a responsibility to hear, feel and engage with everything encountered, and must express something through the basis of the Bodhisattva Refuge Vows that I’ve taken, as I understand them. I reluctantly admit still having difficulty in overcoming Anger in response to trauma; and my Greed that things were different still abounds.

All I really know is I am not in Japan; I can’t even imagine what its like, nor would I deign to presume even with all the media. All I have are the stories told to me by friends, media propaganda, and letters sent through various means. I want to thank you for shedding light on the poisons of Ignorance, Greed and Anger; I can see them a little more clearly now.

Sucks to be Cynical and Hopeless!

In response to the "new age beeswax" comments: Although Anne's perspective may, in your opinion, be marred by her Western "White Goddess" attitude, I think it is important to retain the essence of what she is saying, which is that this disaster has put her back in touch with her humanity and what is really important/essential in life.

Western culture's primary drawback is its self-righteous, skeptical, empirical, independent, selfish and condescending (post-colonial) attitude. You display these behaviors ABUNDANTLY.

The blessing isn't in the disaster; it is in witnessing/experiencing the reactions of the Japanese people in response to the disaster. It is in knowing that at these desperate times, that humans will share and take care of each other, motivated by compassion, not greed. She is THANKING the people of Sendai, and the blessing is acknowledging her gratitude.

Death Trauma Family Sangha

Love in the face of Death & Trauma; thank you for offering this.

Reminding me of the experience of the Four Noble Truths

1. Suffering exists( Life is Dukkha: dissatisfaction)

2.Suffering arises from attachment to desires(and wishing things were otherwise)

3.Suffering ceases when attachment to desire ceases

4.Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold Path

and another quote from Chogyam Trungpa: "the Battle of This and That"

I seem to recall my teacher saying "Suffering exists. This is a Noble Truth because we can begin to see things as they really are and to experience Gratitude in Life. gassho.

new age beeswax - YUCK

Aldyen Donnelly above, that New Age poppycock letter from Anne Thomas is so full of arrogant Western New Age beeswax i want to puke! So she feels BLESSED to be in Sendai? So the Cosmic Ghost is BLESSING her every day there by showing how she the white goddess from New Age Civilization can get back to nature by living in a tsunami zone? How sad and tragic that she uses language like that.

RE: "Maybe the disaster in Japan presents an even bigger reason to "pause" and "breathe"." Alden, definitely NOT. What New Age water you drinking there in BC? The disaster is an epic tragedy of unspeakable dimensions and you and Ms Thomas are speaking of how BLESSED you are to have experiecned this? Ask the locals. They just want their lives back. O arrogant western New age white people! Wake up from your bubble dreams.

RE: "a message of hope for us all." ??? It is a message of decadent New Age beeswx. Oh look at me, i am so blessed and lucky to be here in Sendai and experience Mother Earth's raw sushi power? Gimme a break, Alden. Show some respect to the dead and the Japanese survivors....you don't see any Jap;anese people saying how BLESSED they feel to have been in the tsunami zone, do you?

A letter from Sendai
ANNE THOMAS wrote: among other New Age beeswax:
......".....t I am very** *blessed to have wonderful friends who are helping me a lot....... We sleep lined up in one room, eat by candlelight, share stories. It is warm, friendly, and beautiful...[oh SUMMER cAMP in Japan? Cool ANne!]

.

"..... I love this peeling away of non-essentials. Living fully on the level of instinct, of intuition, of caring, of what is needed for survival, not just of me, but of the entire group"

ASK THE JAPANESE IF THEY FEEL THAT WAY, ANNE!.

''There are strange parallel universes happening. Houses a mess in some places, yet then a house with futons or laundry out drying in the sun. People lining up for water and food, and yet a few people out walking their dogs. All happening at the same time."

O another cosmic blessed cosmic convergence! WOW....

AND she writes: " I am ***blessed in that I live in a part of Sendai that is a bit elevated, a bit more solid than other parts. So, so far this area is better off than others. Last night my friend's husband came in from the country, bringing food and water. Blessed again."

BLESSED BLESSED BLESSED! O NEW AGE DRIVEL....

RE: Somehow at this time I realize from direct experience that there is indeed an enormous *Cosmic *evolutionary *step ...WTF?......that is occurring all over the world right at this moment. And somehow as I experience the events happening now in Japan, I can feel my heart opening very wide. SO WIDE YES! .....My brother asked me if I felt so small because of all that is happening. This wave of birthing ...WTF? BIRTHDAY? 21,000 dead is BIRTHING?.....(worldwide) is hard, and yet magnificent. SO MAGNIFICENT WOW

Thank you again for your care and Love of me, DEAR NEW AGE GODDESS GAIAI!
