Prana (प्राण, prāṇa) is the Sanskrit word for "vital life" (from the root prā "to fill", cognate to Latin plenus "full"). It is one of the five organs of vitality or sensation.
Prana is the energy through which existence is possible. It is what gives life to thought and therefore the mind. It moves around like a stray dog without a leash. In order to tap into the potential of the mind, one must learn to control Prana rather than let Prana run freely. This has everything to do with mindful meditation. Meditation will have little to no effect unless your mind can develop an awareness of the energy which gives life to conscious thought. The way the mind connects with the mind's issues is through Prana.
Without awareness of this energy the mind will become overcome with thoughts of panic, fear, anger, and guilt. No matter the direction of one's thoughts, it is Prana that is driving the train. It is through awareness of Prana that allows one to harness it. First one must understand and recognize the energy that makes up the mind and body. One must realize that everything that relates to anything in this universe is affected by and inseparable from Prana.
Through awareness one is able to guide Prana. This takes practice and strong visualization during meditation. Once the path has been carved out consciously, Prana will move through the channel created and provide the practitioner with clarity and freedom that ultimately leads to the creation of everlasting joy and happiness.
"The rider—the mind of innate awareness— Is mounted on the horse of mindfulness. Propelled by the wings of the unimpeded wind. It moves through the path of the bodhichitta central channel. And arrives at the secret door of bliss at the crown."
