A heartfelt and human story woven together from the voices of four creator/performers who collectively spent over 70 years incarcerated. By recounting their lives before, during and after prison with raw honesty and occasional tears, they create art. "The Castle" is moving not only because of the stories and the couarge it takes to tell them, but also because it reveals the power of art to heal the people who make it.

The Interdependence Project is honored to host this unique and beautiful theatrical event. Please join us for this special showing

Inspired by the resident home run by the Fortune Society in upper Manhattan, The Castle features personal accounts of formerly incarcerated individuals and their re-entry into society.

Conceived and directed by David Rothenberg. Written in collaboration with Vilma Ortiz Donovan, Kenneth Harrigan, Angel Ramos and Casimiro Torres. Produced by Eric Krebs and Chase Mishkin.

Inspired by the 1967 Off-Broadway prison drama Fortune in Men's Eyes, the Fortune Society was founded by former theatre publicist David Rothenberg. The Fortune Society offers a holistic and integrated "one-stop-shopping" model of service provision. Among the services offered are supportive housing, career development, job retention, substance abuse treatment, alternatives to incarceration, HIV/AIDS services, education, family services and drop-in services as well as ongoing access to aftercare.

Following the play there will be a short presentation on the IDP's Prison Project initiative. To find out how you can become involved please visit the prison project info page. Hope to see you there!!!
