"The Three Yanas are three general levels of spiritual understanding that each Tibetan Buddhist goes through on the journey to full enlightenment. They include the Hinaya, or basic vehicle; the Mahayana, or great vehicle; and the Vajrayana, or indestructible vehicle. Each yana is not just a level of understanding but also a set of doctrines and practices appropriate to a person at that stage." - From Indestructable Truth by Reggie Ray
Arawana Hayashi began studying and practicing Tibetan Buddhism with the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa in 1974 and has been named an acharya (senior teacher) in the Shambhala Buddhist organization by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
