Buddhist Studies: Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism (Guest Lecture by John Baker on 8/16 - editor of the book!)
6 Mondays - July 19-August 23, 2010 from 7 - 9pm
Note: John Baker, Senior Teacher and editor of the book will be guest teaching on Monday 8/16. Yay!
The Western Buddhist Pioneer Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche developed a way of teaching about the mind which has greatly influenced and helped shape the entire lexicon for contemporary Buddhism in the Western World. Among his seminal books, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism is one of the most important, for it demonstrates Trungpa's skill of transmitting Buddhist concepts for a materialistic culture capable of turning anything into a consumer commodity, even spirituality and the mind.
Ethan Nichtern, who is a senior teacher (Shastri) in the Shambhala lineage of Trungpa Rinpoche, will guide us through 6 weeks of meditation practice, readings, lectures and discussion of this work, as a doorway into the life, legacy, and teaching style of this amazing thinker and man. What better way to spend your Monday nights this Summer? Fees: Full Series
