The Interdependence Prison Project is working with the College Initiative to offer academic tutoring to formerly incarcerated men and women who are pursuing a college degree.

The College Initiative is a non-profit reentry education program open to all men and women in the New York City who want to begin or continue their higher education after release from prison or jail, during probation or parole or while fulfilling alternative-to-incarceration commitments.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to work with College Initiative students is invited to a full-day retreat and orientation on Sunday, Sept. 5th from noon to 6pm. The retreat will involve meditation practice, discussion, writing and persona work, and informational sessions on the criminal justice system, jail and prison systems and various learning models.

Our aim is to inform and prepare volunteers for their work, but also to explore the meaning of incarceration and liberation. See you there!
