IDPBody & Movement offers several different forms of movement practice, the aim of which is to awaken the body -- to become more grounded, energized and clear -- to nurture the unique physical home we each have in the world.
Much like the process of sitting meditation for the mind, Mind of Body Stretch class provides the tools for the physical body to awaken, break habituated patterns, and make deep and lasting changes with the goal of becoming clear, grounded, flexible and strong. Through slow and focused stretch work based on the principles of Klein Technique, class is designed to get the student out of the head and into the body. As we begin to let go of unnecessary external muscle holding we can find deep muscle connections. We are able to free our joints and access full support from our bones, allowing ourselves to tap into the full potential of each of our bodies.

Teacher Bio
For over 25 years Melissa Arra has trained as a professional dancer with one of her greatest influences having been the stretch & alignment work of Susan Klein and Barbara Mahler (Klein Technique™). From 1996 - 2005 she was Co-Artistic Director of UnderFoot Dance and, along with choreographing, producing and performing in numerous multi-media dance productions, was the proud two year NYSCA grant recipient for UFD’s production, FLU$H, a dance series benefiting Brooklyn charities. Melissa has taught modern dance, composition, improvisation and Klein Technique based stretch classes and workshops in NYC and abroad and is a certified reflexologist.
While working as a staff practitioner at Om Yoga in 2007, Melissa had the good fortune to meet Ethan Nichtern, who in turn, introduced her to Buddhism and The Interdependence Project. She is currently entering her 20th year of study of Klein Technique with Athena Malloy and has consistently applied that wisdom to her past work as a dancer/choreographer and current existence as a person in a physical body. As a teacher, she integrates this same knowledge with the training she believes to be valuable and complementary from her 20+ years of experience working with bodies.
