Through breathing practices, asana (postures), and stretch classes, IDP Body & Movement complements our offerings of Buddhist studies, meditation practice, social activism initiatives, and arts classes. Class Descriptions
Mind of Body Stretch Class - Much like the process of sitting meditation for the mind, Mind of Body Stretch class provides the tools for the physical body to awaken, break habituated patterns, and make deep and lasting changes with the goal of becoming clear, grounded, flexible and strong. Through slow and focused stretch work based on the principles of Klein Technique, class is designed to get the student out of the head and into the body. As we begin to let go of unnecessary external muscle holding we can find deep muscle connections. We are able to free our joints and access full support from our bones, allowing ourselves to tap into the full potential of each of our bodies.
Mondays from 5:40 - 6:30pm
Embodied Writing - In a group setting, we will derive inspiration from a variety of somatic and movement modalities to awaken into a state of expression: writing. We will engage the quality of the body systems: (bone, organ, senses & perceptions, etc) as a focus from which to explore and write from. For example: looking at pictures of a femur bone and an actual skeletal model of the femur bone, feeling it and beginning to connect the model with YOUR femur bone through drawing and movement.
Then once the embodiment process has been opened, sitting down to draw it further if one wishes or writing what has come up, what the femur bone has to express. The results are quite surprising and the experience is quite depth making and joyful.
Tuesdays from 3pm-4:30pm
Community Yoga Flow Class - This class will ask you to slow down and experience your body and breath mindfully with awareness. Flow (vinyasa) yoga is linking breath (prana) with posture (asana). If you can walk up two flights of stairs, then you can take this class. Though not a “gentle yoga” class, gentleness in relating with your thoughts will be encouraged. We will not push you into crazy poses or watch you muscle your way into a posture your body isn’t ready for.
Wednesdays from 5:40 - 6:30pm
