Apply Your Practice
IDP is a community of people who are not only interested in attaining greater personal mindfulness and wisdom but in applying their practice to what they do in the world. We offer space for a variety of workshops, groups, and community projects.

Our Groups:
Interdependence Prison Project - The IDP teams up with the College Initiative to offer volunteer tutoring to the formerly incarcerated seeking higher education and a pen pal program. Participants attend a one-day retreat with the coordinator offered twice a year. For details about this group please email mcarey@collegeinitiative.org
Weekly People of Color Peer Led Group - How can we support each other to find greater freedom and joy through meditation, while acknowledging and challenging the social realities we encounter in the world? The group meets weekly, establishing a comfortable space to check in with each other and cultivating a sense of belonging in community.
New and experienced practitioners of color are invited to attend and contribute their energy and thoughts! Please e-mail Kate Johnson with any questions at specialkatejohnson@gmail.com
Queer Sangha serves the gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight and transgender community by offering Buddhist teachings and meditation practice in a safe and inclusive environment. Together we explore issues of queer identity, gender, LGBT civil rights, and how all of this relates to the dharma. Meetings involve meditation practice, dharma talks, experiential exercises, and social events. Both beginners and the Buddhist-curious are very welcome, as are experienced practitioners. Formed in 2008, Queer Sangha is now a part of IDP and is facilitated by its founder, Lawrence Grecco,
Eco-Activism Group - Currently working on our "Back to the Sack" campaign to eliminate plastic bags in the East Village, the Eco-Activism Group also runs a yearly "Responsible Consumption Month" that challenges community members to investigate personal consumption habits and bring awareness to how our personal activity ripples out into our communities.
