 3-Class Series Mondays from 7-9 pm November 1, 8, 15

Empathy is central to personal, social and global horizons of healthy development and positive transformation. Its absence in early childhood leads to psychological distress and trauma; while its presence in psychotherapy leads to emotional repair and flourishing. In the mind-training tradition (lo jong) of Mahayana Buddhism, lack of empathy is regarded as the root cause of suffering, while its cultivation forms the heart of the path to enlightened society.

Note: John Baker, Senior Teacher and editor of the book will be guest teaching on Monday 8/16. Yay!

The Western Buddhist Pioneer Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche developed a way of teaching about the mind which has greatly influenced and helped shape the entire lexicon for contemporary Buddhism in the Western World. Among his seminal books, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism is one of the most important, for it demonstrates Trungpa's skill of transmitting Buddhist concepts for a materialistic culture capable of turning anything into a consumer commodity, even spirituality and the mind.
