Opening the Eye Mind: Visual Art Through Focused Awareness with Sokuzan Bob Brown

The grip of evaluation and judgment can hinder enjoyment and spontaneity while appreciating or even creating art. Through guided meditation and exercises, participants will begin to navigate with their visual awareness or “Eye Mind.” This class is for non-artists, beginning artists, and seasoned artists who wish to take a fresh look.  All materials provided.

Saturday’s workshop will include an awareness exercise at the Hole Gallery a few doors down from IDP from 1- 2:30pm.  If you are interested in only attending the gallery meditation, there is more information available here.

About the Teacher

Sokuzan Bob Brown has been engaged with art for over 50 years through his experience as an illustrator in the Marine Corps and his attendance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Bob is ordained a Zen priest in the Soto Zen lineage and was a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Kobun Chino Roshi and is currently a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje.

Saturday 10am - 6pm (Includes Gallery Meditation from 1-2:30pm)

Sunday 11am - 4pm - Participants are invited for and optional session on Sunday called "Art CAVE" to share their own artwork and practice with Bob, More details available here.
