01What we take on
Syndicated reports answer the questions many companies share. Custom research answers the one that is specific to you: whether to enter a market, what a competitor’s real capacity is, why specifiers keep choosing another brand, or what a target company’s numbers actually support.
Market sizing and forecasting
Bottom up demand models built from installed base, replacement cycles, project pipelines and end use consumption, with a documented base year and assumptions you can challenge.
Competitor and capacity benchmarking
Plant level capacity, utilisation estimates, product line coverage, pricing posture and expansion plans, assembled from filings, permits, trade data and interviews.
Supply chain and cost structure
Input cost build ups, supplier concentration, lead time exposure and the effect of tariffs or freight shifts on landed cost.
Voice of customer and specifier
Structured interviews with engineers, contractors, distributors and procurement leads on selection criteria, switching triggers and price sensitivity.
Commercial due diligence
Market attractiveness, competitive position and management case testing for investors and corporate acquirers working to a deal timetable.
Opportunity screening
Ranked shortlists of geographies, segments or adjacencies against criteria you define, with a defensible scoring model.
02How an engagement runs
| Stage | What happens | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Scoping call | We define the decision, the questions behind it and what evidence would change your mind | Day 1 to 2 |
| Proposal | Written scope, method, deliverables, team, fee and timeline. Fixed price, no hourly surprises | Within 3 business days |
| Desk and data phase | Trade data, filings, permits, tender records, patent and price benchmarking | Week 1 to 3 |
| Primary phase | Interviews with the specific roles that hold the answer, quotas agreed with you upfront | Week 2 to 6 |
| Interim readout | Early findings shared before conclusions are locked, so you can redirect effort | Midpoint |
| Delivery | Report, model in Excel, and a working session with the analysts who did the work | Final week |
03What you receive
- A written report structured around your decision, not a generic chapter list.
- The underlying Excel model with live assumptions you can flex yourself.
- An interview log showing respondent type, seniority, region and date.
- A methodology annex stating sources, sample sizes and known limitations.
- Two follow up analyst calls in the 60 days after delivery, included.
You own the output exclusively. It is never resold, republished or recycled into a syndicated title. We sign your NDA before scoping, and we will decline work that conflicts with an active engagement rather than run both quietly.
04Writing a good brief
The strongest briefs tell us three things: the decision on the table, the geography and segment boundaries, and the date the answer is needed. Rough is fine. If you are not sure what is feasible within your budget, say what the budget is and we will tell you what it buys rather than quoting a scope you cannot fund.
Send your brief to research@theidproject.org or use the enquiry form. If a published report already answers the question, we will point you to it instead. That happens more often than you might expect, and it costs you a fraction of a custom project.
Start with a scoping call
Twenty minutes with an analyst is usually enough to tell whether your question needs custom work or an existing report.
